A Little Paint

I finally got up the courage to start painting. The cutting in around the edges with paint is what seems to be tedious. I worked on this for quite awhile, then got to the roller part.

Today I'm going to go over the green again. I'm thrilled to have my 'new' kitchen without that big duct hanging down in the middle of the ceiling. I've shown you a picture of that before, and I'll not offend your sensitivity by making you look at it again right now... Maybe later, when I have the whole room finished.

I'm pleased to say that progress is being made. MCM is working on crafting new oak cabinets. There is still cabinet building, tiling, and flooring to do. Let's see... we started this project around the second week of January. MCM laughed the other day about needing a paid vacation. I told him that he had to work a year before he could have any 'paid' vacation. He said that it just might happen.

I might just mention one other tiny thing: the dining room. You see, the wallpaper there is causing a problem. I started stipping it down and found that the original paper had been put on over drywall. Not good!!! I'm going to have to deal with that, and I think that will be a project I'll start next week. I so need another project. Ha and Tah Dah!

A World Of White

My kitchen is a world of white. The walls (yea walls!) have been primed in white. The ceiling has two coats of ceiling paint... white, of course. The woodwork has been painted white.

Shall we call this the pristine look?

Today is the day I'm heading to the paint bucket to add some color. In a few hours, there will be color on the walls. It may look rather spotty as some places don't need paint. I will have cabinets one of these days, and won't paint under them.

You might notice that there are things on my pantry shelves. Yea! I've got my pantry back! I've just painted the door to the pantry yesterday, so hope Master Carpenter Man will come hang it back soon. Things are coming along. I have hope of one day having a kitchen again.

Living in the middle of a room remodel is an experience. I really didn't know what a mess it would be. I'm not complaining... really. It is just an experience. I've got the goal in mind and know I'm going to love it when all is said and done.

MCM is now in the process of building the cabinets. I think every kitchen should have cabinets. Yep, that would be nice. I'm going to celebrate those one of these days.

In the meantime, I decided I'd best give you a little something to look at. Tomorrow will be a green day. Paint! Paint! Paint! Tah Dah!

It's Just Tedious

January and February in the kitchen have come and gone. The work is progressing. The windows have been lowered and framed. The sanding from new sheetrock and mud has been done. There is still the routine dust and always something going on with saws, hammers, etc.

The kitchen door was a project for the sander today. I couldn't tell you how many coats of paint were on it. I don't think MCM had counted on spending so much time getting rid of the mess I'd managed to make over the years. It is much better now, and I hope to not have peeling paint ever again. I knew it needed sanding, and I was glad for MCM to take charge of that job.





It is nice to have the siding back on the house. Having to take out a wall from the outside and reframe it was not part of what I'd envisioned in my little kitchen remodel. I've learned that you never know what to expect when working on an older home. There are challenges, and I'm so thankful that MCM has the skill to handle them. He has done a marvelous job. He is a perfectionist about his craft.

Knowing that MCM is a perfectionist helps me get my jobs done. I have to fight the feeling of just wanting to get painting done. It is all the prep work and taking pains to do things right that pays off in the end. I have to make myself slow down and do it right. If I don't, I know MCM will not give his seal of approval. Drat. I have to try harder and remember that this whole thing is just tedious.

Don't you love how he has managed to leave my kitchen sink in place? He recently secured it to the wall so it does't jiggle. Having my sink and washer and dryer has certainly helped give me a bit of normalcy that I wouldn't have otherwise.

I'd really thought I might have to spend a lot of time trying to wash dishes in the bathroom. So far, it hasn't been needed. I know when he gets to making the new cabinets and getting them in place that I'll have a little time without my sink. Hopefully, it won't be for long.

I haven't gotten around to priming this door yet, but MCM hated the little pocket door that was here. He was quite pleased when I told him to go ahead and replace it. So... here you see the new door to the pantry.

I'm working inside the pantry on the new shelving units. I have to do lots of priming and painting. I don't like painting, but there isn't any point to whining about it now. I'll whine later.

I know I haven't posted here lately, so thought I'd best get with the program and let you know that I'm still alive and so is the project.

I should be getting some paint on the walls soon, so more colorful pictures should soon be available. In the meantime, be glad that your kitchen is together and you aren't living in the land of tools and sawdust. Tah Dah.
